Product Evaluation Haloumi, Zucchini and Grape Tomato Skewers with Basil Oil... 2/3/2011
Our Skewers were so delicious, they were warm and juicy and full of flavour. Each different piece of the skewer was different; from the crunchy and almost sweet flavour of the zucchini to the juicy and acidic tomatoes and the salty and fluffy taste of the Haloumi cheese. They were slightly charred and browned on the outside but had a golden complexity to them. The tomatoes were plump and juicy, slightly split at the sides. The zucchini’s were crispy and golden and the Haloumi was crisp and creamy. When the skewers were grilled they smelt salty and fresh full of flavour. It was a warm and roasted smell that filled the air. They were soft and squishy to touch. The skewers were quite oily and moist. When you bit into them they were soft and mushy, not having much of a sound. They were luke warm once we were able to eat them! Overall they were quite yummy and I thought that our skewers were really tasty. They were a really good snack that filled you up. Skewers were easy and simple to make and tasted great. I really enjoyed them.
Our finished product came up really well. The skewers were grilled perfectly and everything was cooked well. The only thing was that our basil oil was really gross, it had separated and had really odd green bits floating on the surface. But the skewers were great, they were juicy and the vegies were sweet and tasty. The pictures came out really well and looked great. It was a very successful product it was cooked well and looked fantabulous!
One thing that I think we could have changed would be the Basil Oil. It was very strange and didn't taste to good, it might have been an acquired taste that was needed. We could have made the oil into a creamy sauce that went well with the vegies and cheese. We also could have put a bit more of a range of vegies and maybe even some meat on the skewers to give a bit of variety. We could have added some flavour to the vegies by rolling them in some flavoured oil or even some herbs and spices.
I really really liked our skewers so I am going to give them a 5!! Product Evaluation Chorizo Paella
The Paella was interesting, it had a strange charcoal flavour to it. I think this was because we slightly charred the base of the saucepan. It was tasty, the flavours were able to soak into the rice as we left it to simmer. It was very hearty, warm and filling great for winter. The tomatoes, cheese and parsley went very well together. Everything combined together and the cheese melted into it and glued everything together. It was a delicious meal, slightly salty, meaty, and acidic. All the flavours were very simple yet when combined created a whole new tasting dish! The paella wasn't to appealing in its appearance it was a strange colour and had large chunks of sausage through it.Personally It had a slightly sickly pink colour to it and the colour were all blended together. The Paella was mostly all the same clolour and wasn't too appealing to the eye. Putting aside the appearance the smell was delicious it was hearty strong and warm smell that filled the room. It was a smoky and meaty smell that took over the dish, you wouldn't think it had rice in it. The paella was very gooey because of the cheese, I definitely though it was going to be a runny soup because of the amount of stock that was in it but it reduced down and was quite moist. The paella was hot when we took it out of the saucepan. The paella didn't have much sound although when spooned out it made a glugy sloshy sound. Overall I did enjoy the paella although it was quite rich!
Surprisingly the paella looked very similar to the recipe picture, everything went well and there wasn't much wrong with it. The finished product was good, it looked ok and smelt yummy. The recipe was really easy to follow, step by step. Overall the presentation was a bit messy although the colours were really vibrant. In the end when we tasted the finished product, it wasn't all that great it was empowered by a very charred smoky smell and the chorizo was very strong in flavour, it tasted ok and was edible but it could have been better.
There wasn't much to improve on although we probably could have cut everything up a bit finer, that would have been better and maybe even added a few more ingredients to create an even better flavour! The chorizo had to much flavour and covered the other flavours, we could have used sausage instead. Also we burnt the base of the paella so it went a bit charred, we could have changed the cooking time or tasted a couple more times to check it was still cooking right. Apart from all that it was a very successful cooking session!
I wasn't mad on our paella therefore I'm going to give it a three since we could have done better!
Product Evaluation Battered Fish with wedges, tatar sauce and a Greek salad It was a very tasty dish, full of flavour. The chips were very salty and a little spicy, the fish was a bit plain and didn't taste of much else other than fish, the tartar sauce tasted slightly acidic and had quite a large amount of citrus flavour and the salad was very flavourful with the acidic olives salty feta and sweet lettuce. The dish looked ok but the fish was falling apart and very dark, the salad looked a bit soggy but the chips looked awesome, crunchy, golden it had an almost glossy appearance! The Tartare sauce looked fresh and smooth, it was shiny and glossy. When presented it looked a bit messy with the newspaper, it was all falling apart. The whole dish smelt greasy and fatty, it had a strong salty fishy smell that covered the smell of the chips. As I bit into the chips they crunched and cracked on the outside and very juicy in the middle, the fish almost melted and disintegrated in your mouth with a crispy coating on the outside, the tatare sauce sloshed around in the dish and the salad didn't have much sound just the fresh crunch of the lettuce. I quite enjoyed our dish it was tasty, although slightly soggy.
In the end the whole dish looked ok, not everything went to plan because the batter didn't stick very well to the fish and it all scraped off in the pan. It wasn't that much of a great success it all fell apart, the sauce tasted strange and the salad was odd, the flavours didn't go well and everything other than the chips was a bit of a fail. To tell the truth it wasn't a very good quality dish and we could have done a lot better.Overall the presentation was good it was a good idea to do the newspaper but together on the newspaper the food looked quite gross, it was very greasy! It didn't turn out to well most things went wrong, it wasn't supposed to be a bad cooking session but it was. It wasn't even a difficult recipe, it was easy but well it wasn't a good cooking session.
We didn't change the recipe, we tried to keep to it. But we must have read it wrong or otherwise it would have turned out ok. I added a few more ingredients to make the chips taste a little better, although the tartare sauce was disgusting because some ingredients were missing. We could have done without the salad and sauce just to make life a little easier, we should have also used a different recipe for the fish bater because it just didn't explain how to do it. We also could have been a little quicker to prepare so we had enough time to clean up (we had a mountain of dishes). We also could have changed the presentation make it look a little more commercial than just a fish and chips from the pub! I give our dish a two out of five, I only really enjoyed the chips the rest wasn't to good
Product Evaluation Baby molten cakes Our Baby molten cakes were delicious! They were very sweet and buttery full of sugar! They were creamy and smooth, tasted like very chocolaty fudge. They were cute and small their appearance was crispy brown on top, just like a crumbley cake in the middle with a slippery, glossy and rich chocolate sauce! As we pulled them out of the oven a huge waft of chocolate and sugar came up out of the little ramekins. They were soft little baby cakes that crumbled under your fingertips, they were super hot and had a very chewy centre, and they were gooey and rich full of flavour. They were moist and sticky and the sace just covered your mouth, you just couldn’t stop eating them. It was sooo delicious. They didn’t have much sound just the slish and slosh of the gooey sauce in the centre, although they did crackle a little bit on top as the spoon broke the surface. They were the best thing we have made soo yummy. They Turned out perfect, they looked great smelt great and tasted great. Nothing went wrong apart from when we tried to flip them out, I now understand that we had to line the ramekins with baking paper! They were beautiful little cakes that looked just like the picture. It was our first recipe that turned out AWESOME. The recipe wasn't too hard to follow there wasn't any hard steps it was all pretty basic. Everything went really well so there wouldn't be anyway to change the recipe apart from putting the paper in the ramekins everything was fine. Although we could have put a different flavour in the chocolate to make them mocha flavoured or something like that. Oh and they needed to be cooked a little longer so an extra five minutes might have been best
They were sooooo super delicious I have to give them a 10/5!!!!
